Marlwood School

Enrichment

At Marlwood School we recognise that the school journey for an individual is not just about the academic achievements that are gained after 5 years of formal education, but that of equal importance are the chances to develop as a whole person by experiencing different opportunities throughout the wider curriculum.

The enrichment programme at Marlwood School is varied and wide ranging and enables all students regardless of academic ability the opportunity to participate in activities beyond their academic pursuits and the normal requirements of their school life. It aims to promote good choices and to increase students’ enjoyment of school life whilst creating an inclusive, community spirit within the school at the same time

We believe that enriching the curriculum is essential to promoting employability skills and boosts academic attainment in the classroom. It teaches young people the skills they need to make good choices and it develops students’ social, moral spiritual and cultural strengths to allow them to succeed in society.

At Marlwood School there is a wide range of opportunities that students can get involved in both on an individual level and as part of a team to develop as a whole person and we encourage student participation across all years.

As part of the year 11 curriculum, dedicated time is given to Enrichment opportunities where students can step away from the pressure of exams for a couple of hours and focus on their personal growth – looking after their mind and body whilst developing their soft skills that will be vital as they embark on the next step of their educational and employment journey such as team-work, independence, initiative and responsibility.

A taste of what is on offer throughout the year at Marlwood include House Competitions, community action projects, music, drama, dance, art, digital skills, STEM and  sports club  plus many more. Visiting speakers and groups throughout the year are invited in to speak to students about different issues or to highlight industries and careers. Local trips such as visiting Bristol Crown Court, to the far reaching Photography trip to New York and sports tour to Greece.  A dedicated Year 7 residential promoting our school values of Respect, Aspiration and Determination allows our youngest year group to celebrate and reflect on their first year in secondary school whilst making memories that will last throughout their school lifetime.

We have re-introduced a dedicated week to Enrichment in July where a range of activities will be on offer for students outside the usual timetabled curriculum for them to embark on and widen their horizons.
