Extra-Curricular

We offer a wide range of extra curricular activities in all curriculum areas. There are regular sporting fixtures, art and photography exhibitions, GreenPower car races, music and drama performances.

As well as in-school opportunities there are trips abroad with the Languages and History departments, World Challenge expeditions, Ten Tors and Duke of Edinburgh awards.

News from Extra-Curricular PE!

Boys Sports Fixtures/Training Information (Contact Mr Richards for details)

Students will get changed in our changing rooms straight after school.

It is compulsory that students bring with them the following: -

  • Rugby - GUM SHIELD and BOOTS/MOULDS/TRAINERS (correct footwear depending on the surface)
  • Football - SHIN PADS and BOOTS/MOULDS/TRAINERS (correct footwear depending on the surface)

The PE department will book a school bus to take students to and from the venue.

In most cases students may be picked up from the venue or from Marlwood School.

  • Festivals finish at approximately 17:45. If away, return to Marlwood at 18:15.
  • Matches finish at approximately 15:15. If away, return to Marlwood at 17:45.

The PE Teacher in charge will get students to text parents a more accurate time of arrival back to Marlwood School on the day.

Rugby Festivals Basic Rules

 Year 7 - CYCLONE SEVENS

•     7-a-side (half pitch) / 7 minutes each way

•     No scrums or line-outs

•     Tackle is either a tackle or a 3 second hold (if they let go before 3 the ball carrier may play on)

•     Ball carrier must be allowed to pass the ball, or place (if tackled to ground)

•     Scrum-half must pass from ground (when ball paced)

•     Off-loads = game carry on

•     Restarts with a free pass

•     7 tackle turn over

 Year 8 - ELECTRIC EIGHTS 

•     8-a-side half pitch / 8 minutes each way

•     3 player uncontested scrums

•     Scrum half must pass away from the scrum

•     Line-out replaced with free-kick

•     No penalties (free-kick only)

•     Only two from each side (including ball carrier) can contest the ball in rucks and mauls (free kick)

•     Team being scored against has the option to kick or receive

 Year 9 - NITRO NINES

•     9-a-side (half pitch) / 9 minutes each way

•     3 man contested scrum

•     No line-outs (replaced with free-kick)

•     3 from each side (including ball carrier) allowed in rucks & mauls (free kick)

•     No penalties (free-kicks only)

Team being scored against has the option to kick or receive

 Year 10 - TORNADO TENS

•     10-a-side half pitch / 10 minutes each way

•     5 player scrum, contested 

•     Unopposed line-out

•     No penalties (free-kick only)

•     Team being scored against has the option to kick or receive

•     All other rules apply
