Marlwood School

Friends of Marlwood

Friends of Marlwood School (FOMS) are an active and integral part of the Marlwood community.

The group is run by an elected Committee who meet once a month to discuss the organisation and running of events such as the popular “Marlwood’s Got Talent”, regular quizzes and other ways they can support the school.  FOMS is a registered charity.

Previous projects include fundraising for much needed equipment for the school such as a 3D printer, microscopes for science, books for the Library, cooking equipment for the school teaching kitchens and instruments for the Music Department.  FOMS has been very successful in obtaining grants to buy resources for the school such as lots of lovely gymnastics equipment, a Van der Graaf generator for the science department, woodworking equipment for Design and Technology and two large commercial refrigerators for the Food Technology kitchens.  The group is also active in providing resources for school by upcycling items from the local community. Notable successes include a grand piano and two upright pianos, two table tennis tables, a dozen digital cameras, guitars, 100s of books for the library and a drum kit.

STOP THE PRESS!

FOMS is delighted to have not one but two Marlwood dads running in the 2021 London Marathon to raise funds for the upgrade of the school’s netball and tennis courts.  Chris Kedward and George Evans are taking on the challenge of the London event both for the first time on 3 October.

If you would like to support their efforts with a donation (it would be hugely appreciated!), their fundraising webpages are located here:

FOMS also enjoy regular gardening mornings to help with the upkeep of the school site.

The group is always ready to welcome new members – there is a wide membership including anyone who is interested in supporting school. “Friends” are diverse including parents, grandparents, alumni and former teachers.

It is a friendly group and members enjoy getting to know each other as well as supporting the school; this helps make them feel part of the wider school community.
